(Chicago.CityRegions.Com, July 28, 2012 ) Chicago, IL – A new study conducted by researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania recently revealed a type of protein that seem to be linked to male pattern baldness. According to the study, abnormal amounts of this protein were found in the bald scalps of men who suffered from said condition. This protein is called ‘Prostaglandin D2’, and it was found in both the animal and human models used in the study. The protein, along with its derivative, was found to inhibit hair growth. The discovery is expected to bring developments in the treatments for the most common cause of hair loss among men.
Male pattern baldness is a common problem that strikes 8 out 10 men who are under 70 years of age. The condition causes the shrinking of the hair follicles, which eventually causes hair thinning and hair loss. The study delved into the problem by scanning scalp tissue from balding and non-bald spots of men who have the said condition, then they corroborated findings with those taken from mouse models. Upon comparison of the bald and non-bald tissues, they found that Prostaglandin D2 was found in high levels in the bald scalp tissue. The amount was 3 times greater than what was found in the haired scalp tissue.
To further support the findings, researchers used cultured hair follicles and treated them with Prostaglandin D2, after which the hair was significant shortened. Eventually, the derivative of Prostaglandin D2, label as 15-dPGJ2, completely inhibited the growth of hair.
Researchers call the findings as ‘unexpected’, given the fact that a different type of prostaglandin called F2alpha is, in contrast, known to help increase hair growth. For the longest time, prostaglandins have not been linked to hair loss. The results of the new study, however, are quite conclusive.
So far, no guaranteed treatment for male pattern baldness has been developed. What is guaranteed, however, is the rapid rate at which the number of men suffering from hair loss is increasing. Those who have lost their hair due to this condition have a number of existing choices, some of which are invasive and surgical in nature. There are, however, non surgical hair replacement in Chicago, such as advanced custom hair systems that can help men deal with their hair loss problems.
One example of a non surgical hair replacement system is CyberHair in Chicago. This is a new technology developed by the largest manufacturer and retail provider of hair systems in the world. CyberHair has been around since 1995, the year in which it was released, following a successful field test in Europe and Japan. It is currently available from AJKing Creative Hair Solutions.
CyberHair is fast becoming a popular option among men suffering from male pattern baldness, as it offers several benefits that other hair replacement options do not. Tests showed that CyberHair is very durable, has a high moisture content, is lightweight, and even has curl retention, which keeps the hair’s original style in place even after regular wear. Today, while no long-term treatment for male pattern baldness has been developed, CyberHair is the top choice among those suffering from this balding problem.
