(Chicago.CityRegions.Com, July 28, 2012 ) Chicago, IL - As 2012 settles into its second half, the sports industry witnesses the conclusion of many highly anticipated sports events, including the 2012 Masters Tournament for golf, the 2012 USBC open championship for bowling, and the very popular Euro 2012 for soccer.
All three sporting tournaments recently concluded their 2012 runs. The 2012 Masters Tournament featured the world’s best golfers battling it out for the most prestigious golf trophies around. The 2012 tournament was held from April 5 to 8 at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. The main trophy was brought home by American golfer Bubba Watson, who defeated South African golfer Louis Oosthuizen in the sudden-death playoff.
It marked Watson’s first major championship victory in his entire career, and his fourth PGA Tour victory. The win also made him the eight straight first-time major champion. World-famous golfer Tiger Woods, who were initially favored to win the tournament, finished at five over par and won 40th place, tying with another crowd favorite Rory Mcllroy.
In the world of bowling, the 2012 USBC open championship also recently concluded its 151-day run. The tournament was held at Baton Rouge River Center in Baton Rouge, LA. It began in February 11 and was concluded last July 10. The best of the bowling trophies given out during the tournament’s finale went to Matt McNiel of Prior Lake, Minnesota, a 27-year-old left-hand bowler who broke tournament records with his 847 series. The win added two titles to his impressive track record. He also became the first bowler in the whole 109-year history of the USBC open championships to have three 800s in the championships. He also became the 108th bowler in history to bring home multiple titles in a single year.
“I had to work so hard for t this year, and to be able to now say I have three eagles (eagle trophies) is absolutely amazing,” McNiel said.
The bowling tournament ended 9 days after the conclusion of the Euro 2012, the highly anticipated soccer tournament that made waves all over the world. The tournament was concluded last July 1, 2012. The final victory went to Spain, who defended their title with a 4-0 win over Italy. The team made history for becoming the first team to win two Euro championships in a row. It also became the first international team to win three major tournaments in a row, bringing home soccer trophies for the Euro 2008, 2010 World Cup, and Euro 2012.
