(Chicago.CityRegions.Com, July 28, 2012 ) Chicago, IL - The NFL or the National Football League is the most prestigious professional football league in the world. Every year, NFL teams representing various states in America play in the highly anticipated Super Bowl championships. Now, the NFL teams are once again gearing up for the 2012-2013 NFL season, which is the 93rd regular season of the NFL and the 77th Super Bowl championship.
The new season is set to begin on September 5, 2012, Wednesday, with a kickoff game between defending champions New York Giants and the highly celebrated Dallas Cowboys. The two teams will meet at the MetLife Stadium. The Super Bowl XLVII championship game will then end on February 3, 2013, Sunday, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
In April 26 to 28, 2012, the 2012 NFL Draft was held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The first pick in the draft was quarterback Andrew Luck from Stanford; he was selected by the Indianapolis Colts. With the draft already over, the teams are now preparing in full force for the new season ahead. Fans are also preparing early, with NFL games tickets already reportedly selling out even as early as now. This is impacted greatly by the schedule of the games.
On February of this year, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced that there will be more Thursday night games this year, making sure that every team will play in at least one prime time game.
Fans are also looking forward to the classic Thanksgiving games, which will occur on November 22, 2012, Thursday. The game will see the Detroit Lions host the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys host their long-time rival, the Washington Redskins. The most highly anticipated Thanksgiving prime time game, however, is one between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots; the two teams are known to be long-time divisional foes.
The last regular season games will be held on December 30, Sunday, after which the playoffs will resume after the New Year on January 5, 2013. On January 30, the league will move into its Conference championship games. The league’s championship game, known this year as Super Bowl XLVII, will conclude the tournament of the football pros.
There will also be a Pro Football Hall of Fame game, which will be played on August 5 between the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals. This will be followed by a series of weekly preseason games.
Fans are certainly looking forward to seeing who will bring home the most prestigious football trophies for this upcoming season.
