(Chicago.CityRegions.Com, July 28, 2012 ) Chicago, IL - The 2012 FIFA Club World Cup will begin on the 6th of December and will be played for about two weeks until the 16th of December. It will be the 9th FIFA Club World Cup tournament, which will see the champion football clubs from each continental confederation battle with each other in their respective bids to bring home the loving cups of FIFA. The tournament is slated to be the second biggest football event of the year, second only to the longer-running NFL 2012-2013 season, which will be concluded by the Super Bowl XLVII.
This year’s tournament will be hosted by Japan. According to the official announcement, the International Football Association Board has recently approved a new technology called goal-line technology in July 2012. Following the said approval, the technology will be used for the first time in the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup.
This is expected to make the FIFA Club World Cup more highly anticipated.
The FIFA Club World Cup was formerly known as the Intercontinental Cup. It took its current name in 2006. It is not, however, to be confused with the FIFA World Cup.
The FIFA World Cup, often simply known as the World Cup, is the international association football competition where the senior national football teams fight for the ultimate victory. As of now, the championship belongs to Spain, who won the 2010 tournament. Other World Cup winners include Brazil, who has brought the cup home five times. It is the only team o have played in every single FIFA World Cup tournament. Other winners include Italy, which has four titles, Germany with three, Argentina and Uruguay with two titles each, and England, France, and Spain with one title each.
The next World Cup will be held in Brazil in 2014. In 2018, it will be hosted by Russia, and in 2022, in Qatar. The FIFA World Cup is considered as the world’s most widely viewed sporting event. During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, which was held in Germany, an estimated number of 715 million people watched the match.
Unlike the FIFA Club World Cup, which is played every year, the FIFA World Cup is played only once every four years.
While the pros are battling it out in world tournaments, many smaller football teams are also fighting for the cup all over the world.
