(Chicago.CityRegions.Com, September 21, 2015 ) Chicago, Illinois -- West Nile Virus infections cases are beginning to emerge. Recently two people in Lake County area have tested positive. Though these are early reports health officials are urging people to guard against mosquito bites. Nearly 60 pools of mosquitos have tested positive this year as carriers of West Nile Virus.
Most people infected with West Nile virus don't experience any signs or symptoms, or may experience only minor ones, such as fever and mild headache. However, some people who become infected with West Nile virus develop a life-threatening illness that includes inflammation of the brain. Exposure to mosquitoes where West Nile virus exists increases your risk of getting West Nile virus infection. Protecting yourself from mosquitoes by using mosquito repellent and wearing clothing that covers your skin helps to reduce your risk of infection.
Until now pesticides have been the main choice of protection in preventing mosquito bites and the spread of disease. However, while effective, pesticides often have harmful side effects to the human body. Safer and greener methods of repelling mosquitoes, preventing bites and curbing the spread of diseases are gaining traction and being used successfully without harming the environment and the user. These organic methods rely on the use of naturally occurring plant based oils that have been known for their effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes. Plant oil such as Eucalyptus oil has shown great effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes naturally. Eucalyptus is the only plant-based active ingredient for insect repellent approved by the Centers for Disease Control.
BugOut™ Mosquito Repellent Bracelets combines an understanding of the earth's natural elements and results of modern day scientific research in a 100% high quality silicone band infused with Eucalyptus oil. The non-toxic bracelets work by emitting a scent helps to confuse the mosquito's sense of direction and taste, making it difficult for them to take blood from the human body. In bracelet form the repellent is not applied to the skin and cannot be ingested, allowing for non-invasive and effective protection.
BugOut™ Mosquito Repellent advises people to avoid standing pools of water where mosquitoes can breed, including discarding water holding containers, keeping gutters and downspouts free of debris, covering trash containers, emptying swimming or wading pools when not in use and changing the water in birdbaths and plant urns at least once a week. To ward off mosquito bites, they recommended limiting outdoor activity at dusk, wearing light-colored clothing and limiting exposed skin, repairing holes in window and door screens and using insect repellent. West Nile season effectively runs from April through October, taking precautions during the season can help keep us stay safe from potentially dangerous infections.
